Entry/exit stamp dates confusion

In Peru are entry dates based on the date of entry? For example, if I entered Peru on Jan 17, 2023, then left on Mar 24. Then I reentered on July 16, the immigration person gave me a 90-day entry. Should it not have included the 7 days or so remaining from the first entry?
