visa appt interview

I am attempting to set an appointment for my D7 visa application for Portugal. Oh my gosh -- why is the website so inferior? Is there a secret to setting the appointment. I would like an appt in Jan. 2026 with the VFS centre in Houston, TX. No walk-ins accepted not even to just make an appt for an interview. I can not get past the appointment page where is says choose a slot.
Any suggestions -- is there another website that is better? I'm at my wits end. thanks to all for replies
