Do debit cards work?

I'll be landing in Algeciras enroute to France and points north and wondered if I would have any problems using a debit card issued by my bank in any of the ATMs, merchants, train stations, etc. while on the move north. Does anybody know if I would have any problems using my bank-issued debit card (Chase) to fulfill my financial transactions?
