Moving to Spain's Coast

We are from the U.S.--my son and I and thinking of moving to Spain. I am an ESOL Teacher.
I would like to visit this summer and consider moving.

Would like to ask some questions:
-Can we start the residency process from U.S. or must we be in Spain?
- If we move, must we leave after 90 days?
-Can we stay temporarily until the permanent residency is finished?
- Can I look for work with out permenant residency?
