I am moving to Spain in Mai with my mid size dog people told me that dogs are not allowed in trains, buses etc so how can someone travel from Madrid Airport to either Malaga or Costa Blanca East Coast with the cage, dog and luggage, thanks.

I have traveled with my dog on the train in Spain and France. I booked the Spain trips ahead of time, but last time I was in France about a year ago, I had to buy his ticket at the train station, so things can change. Dogs are not allowed on buses in Spain. Another alternative is Bla Bla car, private people who, for a fee, give you a ride to a mutual destination, but you would need to make sure they had enough room for your dog, luggage, etc as most cars here are fairly small.

Thank you, does the dog have to stay in his crate in the train or can he be next to me on the floor?

Policies often change here in Spain. My dog is under 6 kilos (about 13 pounds.) I booked first class when I traveled with him when I first got to Spain via train, and I may have taken him out of his carrier. I will attach a recent article on train travel with dogs, which usually has reliable info. Another option if you are coming to the Costa Blanca is to fly into Alicante, which I have done with my dog, and then take the tram (not train) from Alicante to whichever part of Costa Blanca you are heading to. (Dog must be in a crate, and I don't know about size restriction), except north of Calpe where they are doing track repairs they do not allow dogs on the alternate bus transportation.
