Visiting Valencia for Possible Future Move

Hello,
I conduct workshops in different parts of the world and am beginning to wind down my career. We currently live in Florida, but want to retire overseas, possibly to Spain. I've been to Barcelona & Madrid, but Valencia has really caught my eye. We are planning to visit for 2-3 months this fall. A couple of questions:
1. Where is a good place to stay where we can meet other expats?
2. Since I'm still working (8-10 weeks a year), is it possible to get a visa that lasts longer than 3 months? I have no plans to work in Spain, just use it as a base until I retire. My wife is already retired and travels with me.
Any info that you can provide would be helpful.
Thanks, Mark

Hi, Mark, it looks like nonlucrative visas might be the best approach for you (here's a link: http://www.exteriores.gob.es/Consulados/MIAMI/en/InformacionParaExtranjeros/Pages/Visa%20Requirements/Non-Profit-Visa.aspx) but you can call the consulate in Miami to discuss the specifics with them. You can read about my experience with the visa on my blog (www.valenciaatlast.com, search for "visa"). Expats are pretty well distributed throughout the city, but I would definitely join Internations.org and go to their social events to get to know the expat community. There are also various English-speaking Meetups (Meetup.com) where you can meet others. Valencia is small enough that it's easy to get around easily and meet people, both Spanish and expat. Want more information? Send me a private message. Regards, Christopher
