Registering as Spanish spouse

My Spanish wife just became a US Citizen. When she gets her green passport, she will no longer have a limitation on how long she can be out of the US. I become the limitation in Spain of 6 weeks without a visa. I must confess I haven’t done any studying but, in a nutshell, what have American Ex-pats found about registering as spouse of Spaniard? Do they zap you with taxes, especially income tax? The advantage is flexibility. Are there other advantages. For the time being we plane on keeping both residences active As we still have activities and family in both locations.
