I'm sure we're not alone in feeling overwhelmed with the process of exploring the regions of Spain for a place to settle. We are concerned about culture shock from our American pace (which we expect to change), and are exploring what cities in Spain, and what parts of the cities are a good start of our journey. We don't expect our first home in Spain to be our forever home.
We're looking for a family friendly city that welcomes expats, has a warm to moderate climate, provides good school options, and generally would be a good gateway for our move into a new lifestyle. We enjoy staying active, spend most of our free time together as a family, exploring outdoor activities, novel experiences, and traveling.
We've got an upcoming exploration trip planned. We're flying into Madrid and plan to visit Valencia, Seville, and the Andalucia region. If we had more time I would like to see the northern coast, but thus far Valencia and the Andalucia region seem to be the most recommended for expat families.
We don't know yet how to exlore the cities with a move in mind. In the past it has always been travelling for vacation. We're considering renting a car so we can drive around the neighborhoods. Our trip is for 10 days, so just a few nights in each city.
I've read about a few concerns around climate change (flooding), migrant migration, and Spanish pushback on expats. We don't yet know any families living in Spain.
