Relocating to Holland

Hi guys
I am a Brit living in Houston TX, USA and will be relocating to Holland in a couple of months. I am wondering what the cost of living is like there (think we will be in either the Hague or Amsterdam). Also I have seen a lot about the difficulties in finding accommodation. The job I have will be providing housing for us but I am wondering what type to expect. Is it mostly apartment or house?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
