volksverzekering for U.S. resident?

I'm hoping someone has some advice or feedback on this.
My wife moved to the US from Holland last year. She is still employed by a Dutch firm but carries out all of her work in the U.S. We are aware of the Tax treaty, however, is she still obligated to pay the volksverzekering, or Dutch social security, even though she is not a resident? It is getting taken from her pay automatically but we were hoping there is some way to claim it. She is getting conflicting advice from Dutch tax preparers and indifference from Dutch tax authorities. Anyone?
