Amsterdam Center Garbage Disposal

I am preparing to move into a small apartment in the center of Amsterdam, very near Dam Square. The literature I have found (https://www.amsterdam.nl/afval/afvalwijzers/) says I can drop off trash twice a week on the street.

Do I have to store all of my waste in my apartment in the meantime? How can I get rid of smelly or unwanted garbage between these collection days? Are there any private services I can hire that will provide somewhere for me to put trash without holding it in my home?
