me and my partner are looking to move to the netherlands using a DAFT visa, and we think that, if viable, our best bet for self-employment over there is going to be either her having a math tutoring business, or myself having a childcare business, probably working mostly with students/kids from expat families. WE DON'T HAVE TO DO BOTH, we're going to get married and whoever we decide is getting the spouse visa has a lot more work freedom.
so, my question to expats, particularly expat families, is this;
first, which of these businesses would you predict finding more success there?
Math tutoring business:
-5 years of private experience, almost three years working for a successful k-12 math tutoring agency (still currently employed there)
-Special experience working with students with autism and ADHD
-Flexible for outside-the-box learning/thinking styles; she has asperger's herself and is brilliant at reaching kids who are really struggling to engage with math/STEM.
-We probably wouldn't have an office, sessions would be either at the client's home, online, or at the library or something.
Childcare business:
-8+ years of home childcare experience
-Special experience and references working with children with autism, learning disabilities, physical disabilities and blindness
-In the US, I am certified as a nursing assistant/care aide, which includes CPR and first aid certification as well.
-No car, but I'm already used to taking transit everywhere, as long as parents wouldn't insist on me having one
We both currently speak no Dutch, but we're going to start learning this week as we work on our plans. Hopefully, by the time we move, we will at least have some broken Dutch under our belts.
Additionally, we were wondering what part(s) of the Netherlands have the highest concentration of expats, particularly expat families. Knowing this would make it easier to find work, and it would also just be nice to be around other expats. thanks in advance!
