Moving to Dubai - need apt

I will be moving to Dubai in the next few weeks.
How easy is it to find a decent place to live there?
Would it be cheaper to just stay at a hotel and take a long term arrangement instead of a flat?
Seems like the utility rates are very high and you have to pay in advance your rent?
Anyone have any suggestion?

Alx,

I am not in the UAE, but I emailed my sister with your questions (since she is an expat there). She isn't a member of expatexchange.com so she asked me to post the following for you:

tell him when he arrives here if he is not given accomodation by the company that he is being sponsered by ,,,,,,....then he has to move into a hotel till he finds an accomodation

no renting an apartment comes out cheaper u can find studio flats and 1 bedroom...2 bedroom and 3 bedroom for all sorts of rates depending on the location.

if he is coming down to start work here..that means his company wud have given him a house allowance with which he can look for a flat and pay thru post dated cheques..mostly 4 cheques per quarterly.

Hope this helps you out!
