Getting started in UAE

Hello,
I'm relocating to Dubai and I will be there for 3 years. I need advice on a few items.

1. Can I use my Canadian bought electronics in the UAE with an adapter.

I don't want to bring my PC, TV, etc and find out that even with an adapter they get toasted.

Anybody have problems with bringing typical household items from Canada (or USA) and trying to use them in the UAE?

Also I will be having to by alot of new furniture. Can anybody suggest good, moderately priced furniture stores in Dubai or Sharjah?
