Work Permit Madness

Hey all,
I'm currently trying to make a decision of whether to come and work in Abu Dhabi for a test prep organization (Princeton Review). I wasn't exactly given a great amount of detail about work permits by my employer, and I don't want to be working illegally.
Does anyone happen to know what the process is for getting a work permit? Does one need it before arriving from the U.S.?
