My husband has been asked to apply for a job in Abu Dhabi and we are trying to figure out what we would need to live there salary-wise. There is so much great information on many things but it is very hard to get an idea of what rent we should be looking at.
We would need a 3 bedroom apartment as we have a daughter and I am due in September with #2. (we would like one room for home/office guest and stick kids together!)
All the online listings for real estate agents (and I've read to be wary of them) are for super luxury buildings where annual rents are around 120,000 to 200,000 AED which is SUPER expensive (like 5000-6000 U$ a month yes?)
Can anyone tell me how one who isn't working for a bank and having all their accommodation paid goes about finding a nice place to live? Are there any neighborhoods to stay clear of and what is general minimum standard of apartment? I live in NY so you can find some deals but also some places are rented out that really aren't fit to live in as far as I am concerned and we live in a modest neighborhood in Brooklyn.
I will have to give up my job and don't want to majorly underestimate $$ needed to live and then be stuck in tiny grim place with no money to do anything and two kids to look after.
Any other things that we should be budgeting for but might not normally think of.. like I see everyone is a member of a club, etc would also be very helpful.
Any help advice really appreciated.
