What do expats find most challenging?

Answer this Question

We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in El Viejo. They wrote...

"Expats in El Viejo often find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture, as Spanish is the primary language spoken and not everyone is fluent in English. The slower pace of life can also be a challenge for those accustomed to a fast-paced, efficiency-driven lifestyle. Additionally, the concept of "Nica time," where punctuality is not strictly adhered to, can be frustrating for those from cultures where being on time is highly valued. The lack of certain amenities and conveniences that they might be used to from their home countries, such as high-speed internet or certain types of food, can also be a challenge. Lastly, adjusting to the local customs and traditions, which may be very different from their own, can also be a significant challenge for expats," said a member in El Viejo, Nicaragua.
