What do expats find most challenging?
We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Hannover. They wrote...
"I think the most challenging thing is the perception of German unfriendliness. The old people in German are absolutely horrible. They are by far the rudest, selfish, nasty people I have ever had to deal with. Other than that, it is a culture that really doesn't care to make small talk like in the states. I appreciate that, but some people see that as rude," said a member in Hannover, Germany.

"Expats in Hannover often find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture. Many locals speak German as their first language, and it can be difficult for expats to communicate with them without a good grasp of the language. Additionally, the local customs and traditions can be difficult to understand for those who are not familiar with them. Expats may also find it difficult to adjust to the slower pace of life in Hannover, as well as the colder climate," remarked another expat who made the move to Hannover, Germany.
