What do expats find most challenging?

Answer this Question

We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Pula. They wrote...

"Expats in Pula often find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture, as Croatian is a difficult language to learn and not everyone speaks English. They may also struggle with the slower pace of life, which can be frustrating when dealing with bureaucratic processes or business transactions. The cultural emphasis on close-knit family and community ties can also be difficult for expats who are used to more individualistic societies. Additionally, some expats may find it challenging to adapt to the local cuisine, which is heavily based on seafood and meat. Lastly, the Croatian concept of time, known as 'Pomalo' (take it easy), can be a challenge for those used to punctuality and strict schedules," mentioned another expat when asked about moving to Pula, Croatia.
