What do expats find most challenging?

Answer this Question

We asked expats and digital nomads what they find the most challenging about the local culture in Bundang. They wrote...

"Expats in Bundang often find the language barrier to be the most challenging aspect of the local culture, as not everyone speaks English and the Korean language can be difficult to learn. The hierarchical nature of Korean society, which is deeply ingrained in the culture, can also be challenging for expats to navigate. This is especially true in professional settings, where respect for elders and superiors is paramount. Additionally, the fast-paced lifestyle and long working hours common in Korea can be a significant adjustment for expats. The concept of "saving face" is also prevalent in Korean culture, which can make direct communication and conflict resolution more difficult. Lastly, the spicy food, while delicious, can be a challenge for those not used to it," said another expat in Bundang, Korea.
