Will I save money living in Lima?
We asked expats if they save money living in Lima. They said...
"Living in Lima can be significantly cheaper than living in the United States. The cost of living in Peru is much lower than in the US, with basic necessities such as food, transportation, and housing costing significantly less. Additionally, the exchange rate between the US dollar and the Peruvian sol is very favorable, meaning that US dollars can go much further in Peru. As a result, many people find that they can save a considerable amount of money by living in Lima, Peru," mentioned another expat when asked about moving to Lima, Peru.
"Exceeded them by a mile! Like most of Latin America when the Financial crisis started in the USA and Europe, prices of land tripled. Inflation has been low and and prices of most things are about a third of NYC. Lunch for 2 in a nice Cafe was $12 eight years ago and now is about $20.00 Our currency has appreciated from 3.6-1 to 2.7-1 over the same time frame," commented one expat who made the move to Lima, Peru.
