Is the cost of living in Scheveningen high?
We asked people how much they someone comfortably live on in Scheveningen, they wrote...
"The cost of living in Scheveningen, is considered to be relatively high compared to other areas in the country. This is largely due to its location as a popular beach resort town and its proximity to The Hague, the third largest city in the Netherlands. Housing is one of the most significant expenses in Scheveningen. Rent for a one-bedroom apartment in the city center can be quite expensive, while apartments outside of the city center are slightly more affordable. Groceries in Scheveningen are priced similarly to the rest of the Netherlands, with fresh produce, dairy, and meat being relatively affordable. However, dining out can be quite expensive, especially in the beachfront restaurants and cafes that are popular with tourists. Transportation costs in Scheveningen are also a consideration. While the town itself is walkable, many residents commute to The Hague or other nearby cities for work. Public transportation is reliable and widely used, but owning a car can be quite expensive due to high fuel costs and parking fees. Healthcare in the Netherlands is of a high standard, but it is not free. Residents are required to have health insurance, and while the government provides a subsidy for those on lower incomes, this is still an additional monthly cost to consider. Overall, while the cost of living in Scheveningen is high, many residents feel that the high quality of life, beautiful surroundings, and access to amenities make it worth the expense," wrote a member who made the move to Scheveningen, The Netherlands.
