relocating help?

I am researching a move to Bermuda from New York City. I was offered a job but it seems there is no way I could survive on 55K there.
I currently work as a freelancer and would be taking on a full time job.
New York is expensive but I feel my social life would be different in Bermuda maybe doing more things outside that are low cost or free? playing at the beach?
I am really ready to make a move but don't want to end up in a situation where I am poor and miserable.

any advice is welcome!
