Building in Ontario

Hi, I'm new here...

A dream of mine for quite some time now has been to move to Canada (from the UK), and eventually buy a plot of land and design and build my own home.

I've got ideas of where I'd like to build, which would be some where within 60 miles of Greater Toronto.

I realise that this would happen in many years' time (my b'friend and I don't even have visas yet!), but I just wanted to know if anyone here has self-built in Canada, or knows any ex-pats that have. Is it cheaper than the UK, and what's it like for planning permission?
