Doing a visit before moving permantely

My partner and I are wanting to move to Canada at the end of the year. Currently we are in two minds about whether we do a trip to see if its worth it before we apply.
Im leaning to doing a trip more than my boyfriend as he feels what else he can gain from a trip if he already has approx. 2 years of research
What are somethings you wont be able to find out online, that would be good to look it if we were to go fo a trip before applying.
Im well aware the atmosphere would be one but is there something else?
