Medicare Exemption While Abroad

I'm moving to Ontario this summer and will be covered by UHIP at the university where I have a 3-year appointment. I am over 65 and have never needed to sign up for Medicare because I am still insured at my current university. Does anyone know whether I can continue my Medicare exemption under UHIP? Thanks!
