9 months in Chile, and would like to work

Hello
My family is temporarily relocating to Chile in July for 9 months. We plan to arrive on a tourist visa and then leave every 90 days to renew it, We would like to work (at least part time) while we are there to pay bills. We can speak some Spanish and would take any kind of job to get by. A cafe, teaching English, retail store etc. Is it impossible to work without the proper visa? I did find limited information about a tourist visa that allowed employment, but I have not gotten a good explanation about that from the local consulate (we live in Los Angeles, CA). Thank you for any advice.
