As per recent regulation (Resolution 5512/2015 of Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs) the resident visa's (RE visa's) validity has been extended to an indefinite period of time.
This way, the RE visa's legal status is identical with the status before Decree 834/2013 (which limited the RE visa's validity to 5 years).
Said reduction had sparked major discontent among the expat community in Colombia, especially those foreigners who had been living in Colombia for a long time and invested their fortune and created family ties.
The revival of indefinite Colombian residency is supposed to put these foreigners in a much more comfortable and stable position than under Decree 834.
