I'm flying into Medellin in a couple months, going for, at least, 6 months in the country, though I'd like to stay longer. I'm aware of the June-July arrival possibilities, and I'm looking into that now.
I have a couple friends there, and I'm free to work from my laptop for at least a year, so I'm going Colombia, because there are a lot of reasons to choose for Colombia for a youngish single man, as so many people have pointed out.
One of the simplest and perhaps most sensible ways for a non-retired single person to extend a visa is to go the student visa route, it seems to me. Taking Spanish classes while living in a Spanish-speaking country seems like an all around sensible thing to do. In my preliminary research I've seen estimates of $300-500 per month to enroll at UPB, EAFIT or U of Antioquia, where I'd be granted a student visa. Anyone have experience or know anyone who's gotten a student visa?
