At long last the Colombian government has approved the culling of 80 (out of a population of 170) hippos which are decendants of the four that Escobar originally brought to Colombia.. Since his death they have moved more than 100 kilometers from his ranch and have been both an ecological disaster for native species such as manetees as well as a serious threat to farmers along the Rio Magdalena.. There has long been missplaced protest protest by animal lovers insisting they be protected and alternative measures including sterilization have been tried but complicated by the fact they are huge and dangerous . Elimination of this "invasive" species will benifit the natural habitat and species of the Magdalena river system in Colombia as well as protect local farmers in the region. Here here Irene Vélez!
