Moving from NY in July

Hi, I'm moving to CR via New York, for at least 6 mo's to a year. I'm going to start off with some spanish classes (most likely at Intercultura) in San Jose, and do some traveling to other spots on weekends. I've heard Heredia is a good place to live. I'm physically active (rock climbing, martial arts, running etc.), single, 30. I'd like to get some feedback on Heredia, and any other advice. Thanks, Brian
