Cargo to Cairo

I am relocating to Cairo in September and have mixed reports about importing personal effects. Does anyone have info or advice on the following:-
1) Are items taxed on import apart from electronics? If so what items? Can taxes be avoided if items are brought in with you rather than in cargo?
2) Are books and teaching notes (Biology) subject to stringent checks or import taxes?
3) How often do things you pack "disappear"?
4) Are breakages common in cargo?
5) What is the cost of buying a car? I quite like "desert bashing" and camping. Is a 4WD really worth having?
6) How high would the import tax be l on an ancient 4WD?
7) Is it worth bringing IKEA furniture in?

I already seem to have the cargo forwarding and clearing agents lined up. Any other info would be greatly appreciated as I am at the packing/ de-junking phase of planning!
Thank you
