Moving to Lyon...Help!

I am an American male from the San Francisco Bay Area preparing to move to Lyon. I know almost nothing about the area. I don't speak French at all but will be taking classes upon arrival. I would like to know if there are many Americans in this area and if so what is the best way to meet them. Any information on what life is like in Lyon is greatly appreciated.
