proof reading

has anyone done any proof reading (correcting english texts ie thesis written by german students) ? i was thinking of trying it as i only have a chance to work in the mornings when the children are in kindergarten. I'd thought of teaching school kids but when school is out, my kids are home!
Anyway, how much would you charge for proof reading, and by page or by hour?
thanks.
