future move to Heidelberg area,advice needed please

My wife and I are moving to Heidelberg area later 2006/early2007.
Currently living in Dallas TX
I am looking for any advice on apartment rentals/areas/ vehicle purchasing etc.
Also, where does one look for jobs for English speakers ?

Any advice is greatly appreciated,and we are travelling to Germany twice this year,and will be gratefull for a quick coffee/beer/lunch with an expat or two so I can write all this down and meet some people.
