Prepaid Mobile Phone (Cellphone) Recommendations

Hi all-

My 21 year old niece will be moving from California to near Berlin (Potsdam) in April to start college. I'd like to get her a prepaid local (German) mobile/cell phone for the 6 months she'll be there.

Any comments/suggestions on companies to get a prepaid phone from that have a good reputation, low calling rates, etc.?

I only speak engligh so references to websites or other resources with info in english would be great.

Thanks!

Joel
