Hi Everyone,
I am an American woman seriously considering marrying my Indian boyfriend and moving back to India with him (he has a family business to run, so it's not much of an option for him!)
I have spent a grand total of 10 days in India (this summer) but I do know that it is crowded and hot and can be very, very conservative. Could anyone shed some light on what it might be like as an American woman living in S. India, probably Bangalore and Chennai? Specifically,
- How plentiful are Western ExPats? Are there many social networks to tap into in B'lore/Madras?
- As a woman (a white, Western, NEW YORK woman!!!), how will I be treated socially, professionally?
- Will I completely freak out from culture shock and need to move back to the USA 5 years into our marriage??? I am planning to return to the US twice a year and to have our kids spend summers w/ my parents in the US
I'm terribly in love but also don't want to be completely irrational or unrealistic.
Any thoughts -- esp. from Americans/Westerners -- are GREATLY appreciated.
