Moving & finding work Mumbai

Hi
I am after any advice from Australian's who have moved to India (mumbai) off their own back (not been sent by their employer). I am looking to stay for at least 12 months possibly longer. Has anyone found any good Aussie recruitment agencies to help find work in India? Or was it better to use local agencies? Is so can you recommend some. Preference is to work for an international company.
Any advice/tips on accommodation and visa's and for moving and what to prepare/take etc would also be very helpful. Thanks
