Freelance Visa

Hi All,

I am living in Italy currently on a student visa, but...

I am a freelance writer. I am curious as to anyone's experience with obtaining a freelance visa. Is it impossible? Or as long as I can show sufficient money in the bank are they pretty lenient?

Also (just thinking out loud here), if I do obtain the freelance visa is the process after the same as any other visa? (permesso di soggiorno, residenza, etc.)? And using that can I register for A.S.L. health insurance?
