First trip to Italy

My wife, Pam, and I will be visiting Italy for the first time this Christmas season, Dec. 13-Jan. 4. We live in Hong Kong. We plan on seeing Rome, Venice and Florence. We had considered the Amalfi Coast but have been told it is closed that time of year.

We would love any suggestions, you can provide on where to go, what to see, where to stay, eat, sleep, etc. We are experienced Int'l travelers but newbies in Italy
