Making the move to Catania, Sicily

Hi,
MY husband has been offered a job in Catania, but after doing some research on the internet, it seems as though making a move to Sicily from US may not be as easy as we thought. We have two little girls ages 6 and 2 and their education, healthcare and, well, raising them as italians are my biggest concerns. Does anyone have any advice for us? I have read that we would face many challenges as non italian speaking Americans. Would the experience of a different culture and living abroad be worth these challenges? Your thoughts on this would be appreciated.
