Studying Abroad - Ferrara

Buon giorno!
I'm an America college student (majoring in Italian Studies) who is hoping to study abroad in Italy this upcoming year. The program I am considering is in Ferrara. Can anyone offer any information or experience with Ferrara? I'm curious about what type of environment it is & Wikipedia can only tell you so much!
Also, once I graduate here, I hope to attend grad school in Italy. Any advice on that would also be greatly appreciated!
