Living Lucca

I am researching life in Lucca. I have read various sites and appreciate advice. I want to come for a month or two first to try it out. Would anyone have thoughts on this. I am single woman, 68, feisty and a painter/writer. I travel alone and would live there in an apartment I would hope in the center. Is this too small a town to move to? Any other/better recommendations?
