Expat in the making!

Hello! I'm a US citizen with a US passport moving to Italy (Livorno/Genoa/Turin area possibly, depending on jobs) in October 2018. I'm moving alone and am so excited to get out of California and start this new adventure! I'm actively looking for work but haven't had luck so far. I am able to get into Italy with my US passport but do I need to have another entrance visa before I go so that I can continue to look for work and apply for the Permesso di Soggiorno? How difficult is it to get a job once I'm there rather than before I move? Thank you for your advice!
