Sabbatical

hi there,
My family (my wife and 2 kids) and I are planning a sabbatical for 1 yr in Italy next yr.
Not planning to do paid work in Italy.
Planning to liaise with Italian university researchers and learn new techniques in research labs.
Any thoughts on what visa would be most applicable?
thanks.
