Cancer Treatment in Milan

Hello,
Hoping to retire to the Lake Como region in about a year. I have dual citizenship with Italy though my husband does not.

My husband has been treated for nom Hodgkins Lymphoma and is 5 years cancer free. Should he need further treatment in the future, can anyone tell me are there long waits for cancer treatment in this area under the public system or should we pay for private insurance and would that speed up the process?

Thank you for any advice as this is a huge concern for us.
