Why Panama?

To those who already and live in Panama for some time I would like to ask"why did you chose Panama" I would assume that before you choose Panama you was looking at other countries as well and still chose Panama.
We are in a verge of retiring in to Central America because -South America is kind of too far from the US- 10 hrs to SA and 5 1/2 to CA.
So just would like your input.
