Getting medications in PC

We are very new to PC, less than a week now, and in trying to get settled, visited a pharmacy to inquire about our medicatons. We knew that most drugs don't need prescriptions, but we find the cost nearly prohibitive. How have others solved this? Is it possible to have our meds sent from the States? Would we need to have mail service to do this? Thanks for any info.
