Hello to all Expats in Panama,
I have dreamt, for many years, that Panama is where I should be. Now I'm going to do something for myself-come to find out. I will be traveling mid-March 2013 and plan to visit the cities of Coronado--is this the same as Playa Coranado about 1 hour West of Panama City? I would also like to visit Parita, Los Santos and Las Tablas. I will be traveling by bus. I understand that is a very convenient and thrifty means of travel.
I am planning to attempt to CouchSurf as much as possible, but would very much appreciate suggestions for safe, clean, inexpensive hostels, private homes that rent a bedroom or small hotels in these cities.
It was my Father's dream to return to live in Panama, unfortunately that has never been possible. But, he has told me many stories of the beautiful country, gracious residents and the opportunities to live a life more in tune with nature.
I hope to hear from you with ideas and suggestions as I prepare to depart on my journey to find the place in the Universe to call home. My home is currently in Austin, Texas and while I cannot sing country music or whip up chicken fried steak I have had the aspiration to become a lounge singer, dabble in restoration of manuscripts and enjoy many one-of-a-kind volunteer opportunities.
My age is 61 and I am taking the advice of my scholarly niece who told me, "Auntie, don't continue to live your life for everyone else--give yourself the gift and go to see if this country is as beautiful as you imagine." Thank you in advance for your kindness in responding to my queries. May we enjoy a beer or glass of wine together as new friendships are made..
Sincerely,
Michele Perry
