As I was flying in last night, I was ready to shoot myself in the head because the idiot next to me would just not shut up! Even after I had asked him several times to allow me to rest “I HAVE A MIGRAINE” and flying is no help for it. Anyway, he just kept going on and on about how he wants to move here, and after listening to his chatter, I know he’s one of you out there asking the same questions over and over. But one thing he would not leave alone was how “far” things are from other things? And it’s always easy to tell someone the distance from here to there is approx. 12 clicks or so, right? But the important answer is; ‘how long it takes’. Which brings me to my next rant …
Why get so hung up on how far things are from where you want to stay or live? The ONLY real values I can imagine are those that move here and are quite elderly or sickly. They may NEED to be in close proximity to a hospital and good roads for an ambulance to get through on. But for the rest, pick a place to hang your hat or build a house you'll love forever. Worry about the how-to’s, and how long it takes to get to the malls and beach the day you plan to go to those places.
I have a friend in San Carlos that simply had to live near the water. Paid out the ying/yang for his house and property ... he and the Mrs have now been here for almost 3 years and have only gone to the water a 1/2 doz times. Did the expense make sense? Not likely. BTW … they’re less than 3 minutes from the ocean they had to be next to!
Please don't forget distance is a relative thing ... if you're close to the water, you'll be far from most everything else. Part of the joy around here is the trek getting to where you want to be on the weekends.
Just sayin …
Oh yeah, one more thing, and ‘you’, you know who you are … when I leave here in a few days to go back to work and you, the talkative one sits near me … listen and heed if I ask you to be silent. Otherwise I may punch you in the head next time. I use my return trip to catch up on work I’ve put off while hanging out at home.
